As many of you know (I'm going to talk out of third-person for this) I am an avid fan of Historical European Martial Arts. I practice German Long-sword fencing, wrestling, boxing, various grappling techniques, sword and buckler and many more European combat sports. HEMA is a great way to boost confidence, become fit, gain lots of new knowledge and experiences and make tons of honest and true friends along the way.

I'd recommend this sport, not only are you learning various self-defense and combat techniques but it's just a good way to learn some recreational sword-play.

Hope you all have a great day, and if you are interested in learning HEMA and wanna talk about some stuff, don't hesitate to inbox me. Thanks guys.

You would normally use a long-sword or a pole-axe in armored fencing, since the armor gives you enough protection that you can afford to use two-handed weapons. And yes, HEMA is another form of fencing, it's just older, meaner and far more deadlier than regular fencing you see, aka wet noodle fights. You can learn rapier fencing which is similar to modern sport fencing except it's far more interesting and allows you to use a dagger along side your sword as-well.

Nah, I live in New Hampshire (USA), but I wish I lived in Australia. I'm not much for the heat, though.

Ya know, searching for edible shrooms, outrunning moose, avoiding bears, watching for cactus, and fishing. Which seems more fun here?

I bet you could do both, because you won't be doing one thing every day. Please don't come off condescending towards my post because It doesn't interest you.

If you aren't interested, then don't comment, it's simple.
Oh Rast, find any good clubs close to your area?

I found an English Study (no idea what that means though) that was about 40 minutes away. The other option is a Pan European (also no idea) which was on the other side of the state.

The one i study at the moment is Italian longsword/sword and buckler. I suggest you start with German style, it's very complex but an extremely good system which deal with a wide range of weapons and unarmed techniques. I never did kendo, I prefer the European styles over Japanese, but it looks interesting. I don't really want to do Kendo like I don't want to do sport fencing, it has been turned into more of a sport and less of an art.

Kendo's to kenjutsu as fencing's to more practical styles. It's a more sportsy, simplified art focusing on a few basic movements.

You shout when you hit your opponent and it gives you some nice arms, so it's lots of fun.

HEMA is bout the same with the arms . At first the swords seemed heavy, but after handling them a bit, longswords move as if they were apart of your own body. When I get some better padding and gear I'll be able to do full contact sparring.
